The Beatitudes Revisited
Next week we begin a new series in our long running Tuesday Night Tribal Gathering Bible Studies, as we return to explore the Beatitudes of Jesus.
Eight nuggets of teaching from Jesus that some would say are way out of reach and others would say are transformational, and deeply counter cultural. Martin Luther King Jr, Mahatma Gandhi, Oscar Romero, Dorothy Day, and Mother Teresa are among those who testified to the influence of the Beatitudes in how they all worked for justice, resisted oppression with non-violence and served the poor.
Jesus presented his ‘Beatitudes’ manifesto for an alternative way, to a crowd of unsettled, angry, marginalised misfits living in the shadow of an oppressive empire and a religious system that had lost it’s way — we’ll return to these words from Matthew chapter 5:1-12 to see what they might mean today.
Join us from 7.30pm on Tuesday evenings, for an hour of study and friendly discussion from 8-9pm which we start and end with prayer. We’re still in George Street and you’ll find us through the red corner door. #Thebeatitudes #Beatitudes
